Step1: Lead-in
T: Before starting our lesson, I want to bring you a piece of bad news. An earthquake happened in Wenchuan in
Earthquake is a kind of disaster. What other disasters do you know?
Ss: flood, drought, sandstorm, snowstorm, tsunami, cyclone, fire…
T: what do you think of fire?
Ss: (important, useful, dangerous…)
T: Fire is very important in our daily life. What can we do with fire?
Ss: (To make water hot, cook food, give light, make our house warm…)
T: Fire is very important and useful. But sometimes it is very dangerous if you are not careful with it. It can burn things or even hurt you. Also, a fire can destroy forests and tall buildings. So you should keep yourself away from fire.
Step2: Brainstorm
If you are in a hotel, a big fire happens. What will you do?
1) You should call 119 and the firemen will come to save you quickly.
2) Rush out of the fire as quickly as you can.
3) Pour some water over your clothes. Put a wet towel over your mouth and your nose to keep the smoke out.
4) Don’t jump out of a window. Jumping may be more dangerous than the fire.
Step3: Skimming
